You need to convince them

You must’ve heard that to get people to buy from you, you need to influence them. That you need to convince them. And that that is called marketing

Marketing is not about convincing (well… bullshit marketing is).

People don’t “need to hear a story” to get convinced to buy.

They don’t need your storytelling skills (whatever that means) “trying to convince them to buy”.

Here’s why

When you’re trying to convince someone to buy from you —let’s be honest— you don’t have their best in mind. Because if you did, you’d let them take and make the decision by themselves.

If you’re not trying to convince anyone and see that what you offer is not the right fit, you’ll tell them. If you tell them you’re not right for each-other, by definition, you’re not convincing.

Not convincing = Trust.

Selling is helping others in their transformation. To do so, they need to make an informed decision. This is where you get in. You set the context, give the information and let them decide. Without convincing.

Here’s the thing

First, don’t convince anyone of anything. De-program yourself from this concept.

The way out is simple: help and serve.

One way to think of this is how Jonathan Stark puts it: Help people you like get what they want.

A first step to do so: helping people for free —at scale.(This is a conversation between Jonathan and Paul Boag —you’ll love Paul’s unconventional approach).
