That is the question.
Probing with yesterday’s question “What IS original?” brought me to interesting, unthought places.
Because “To Be / Being” can take different meanings.
From one perspective, it can be taken as a yes/no answer.
From another one, as if the subject has the characteristics of originality or not.
From another one, as the definition of original.
Or, as what involves to make the subject original.
Even as the reasons to define the subject as original.
Why a subject? Because originality can be applied to both people and things.
The meaning I tend to like and use the most though, is that original has to do with a spectrum —a range.
It can be external, and internal. Not necessarily happening at the same time, or even together.
- External, from how it can look to the outside world.
- Internal, in wise words of 311: “you got come full range. Full range of emotion, full range of styles“.
Because, to stand out, you need not to be an exact copy, nor standard. But to come original.
PS.- Also, one way we’ve developed as humans, is that —with time— we can tell what’s NOT original.
