Thought leadershit

“You can produce thought leadership.“
​It’s bullshit.

That’s like saying that you can produce leaders. A step-by-step process where you get a person in and, like an output, they return being leaders.

That can be anything but leadership. Just think about it: if it were the case, why don’t we have more, better leaders?

Leadership is the personal decision to help others to do and be at their best. It’s not about having followers, but to open the path for others so that they can lead.

First, leading is risky. 2nd, it’s personal. You won’t lead if you don’t want to. 3rd, being called a leader only comes from others. You don’t get to call yourself a leader.

Leading —and leadership— is not about yourself. It needs to take the focus off of you, so that it can be on how to get the ones you serve at their best.

And thought leadership is about helping others get to their best with your thinking.

If it’s not leading, it’s thought leadershit.
