Selling a personal brand

You can’t have a personal brand.

A brand is an asset —a quantifiable one for a business. With that, you can value it and sell it for whatever you want.

A brand can change hands and —at least for a moment— keep that same value. As well as it could go up (a VC-funded startup grows its value, as Figma) or absolutely way down (x/twitter).

If you were to have a personal brand (aka “become” a brand), you’d turn into an asset.

An asset, as a resource or capital… is a thing.

If you were to sell your personal brand, it would mean that either you change or that whatever changes made to it from the outside would rule you.

The total opposite to authentic.

Even if you were to sell your name and not able to use it on yourself EVER again.

While you wouldn’t have the rights to use your name, you’d never stop being yourself.

It wouldn’t take your soul away. Or your influences. Or what you value. Or what you’ve learned all over the years. Or your way of thinking.

It wouldn’t make you less of yourself.

Here’s the thing

A brand is an object.

When you sell a brand, without a name, it becomes “one more of”.

You, are not a thing. 🙂
