Yesterday’s message had 2 concepts about content: repackaging and repurposing.
Repackaging
Taking one thing and using different media. An article into a blog, into a post, into tweets, into a IG carousel, into a thread, into an article…
What they call “repurposing”.
Repurposing
“It doesn’t necessarily has to be “yours” per se, but how you can tweak it and apply it in a new setting.“
One way is taking something already done and trim, sample, replace into a different medium.
What does this look (and sound) like?
Like Nirvana. Smells like teen spirit.
Dave Grohl took a specific point of a content —the Gap Band Burn Rubber On Me drums— and gave a new purpose (a new goal) to that drum beat, placing it in a different medium —Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Another way of repurposing —the hardest one and that requires you to think deeper to create— has to do more with how you can apply things from one realm into another one. It sounds like Stone Temple Pilots‘ Interstate Love Song.
Bass player and composer Robert DeLeo turned this song from bossanova into rock.
He used the same principles and transformed them into a different genre, with different characteristics —and a killer sound.
That’s why repackaging and repurposing are 2 different things.
They take different levels of creativity and originality.
