Dumping New Year’s Resolutions

The thing about resolutions is that they usually stay behind at some point in the year.

You can do commitments.

You can do promises.

You can do goals setting.

But to start the new year, make things simple for you. Star with ONE thing.

This one thing can take 2 forms:

  • One with the big picture in mind. Or
  • One to be a high actionable thing to implement asap (and keep at it).

Either way you go, you can give it a try with this:

  1. Grab a piece of paper, write down your desires/thoughts/wishes/goals for 2024.
  2. Just braindump.
  3. Look for the patterns.
  4. What do you see?
  5. Group the themes you find alike, together.
  6. Now, choose ONE.

The point of this exercise is to start small. Ridiculously small. So small that it doesn’t seem like it’s impossible, but moves you one inch at a time in the right (desired) direction.

Think of it as setting a campfire.
Jonathan Stark sums it up like this:

Getting a small flame started with your tinder is pretty easy. The hard part is keeping it going long enough to ignite ever larger pieces of wood.

Now, happy new year.

You got this.
