Balance. It pulls one side on, or from the other to make things even. It takes from one to give to the other, so it keeps an equilibrium. And sometimes it feels like juggling. Business, work, fam, leisure…

Harmony. Many points happening at the same time and working together.

Friend of the list Jonathan Stark (musician, coach and on a mission to rid the world of hourly billing) shared this definition of harmony:

“Two or more notes played at overlapping points in time that, in combination, are pleasing to the ear (i.e., consonant, not dissonant – aka “in tune”).”

Things can be in tune —and a little fucked up to make things sound great, as Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters lead guitar) says [time stamp 02:30]:

“Rock and roll is imperfection and flaws and 4 or 5 or 6 or 8 people playing together and it’s not gonna line up. It’s gonna be a little fucked up. It should be. Because that’s what human beings (are). Human beings aren’t perfect.”

Life and business won’t be perfect —or even balanced. What you can do is focus on which approach can make a greater impact in how you serve (your clients, fam, community, etc.).

Even when things don’t go as smooth, you know where you’ll be going.

Which one are you aiming for in life: balance or harmony?
